Fion Seng is an entrepreneur and a network marketer with 25 years of business leadership experience helping amateur entrepreneurs build their network through one-to-one coaching, webinars and events. She’s motivated by the mission to share the beauty of passive income to others seeking for financial freedom.
Origin Story
Growing up in a family of hawkers, young Fion knew she wanted to change her own and her family’s living standards. Fion persevered with the knowledge that she has which is to study hard, earn a college degree, and find a stable job. In college, she took many club positions, joined many non-profit organizaitons, and was able to balance her academics well. Fion was considered to be an average college student who was bounded for the “real world”.
But little did she know that even with a college degree, which was considered rare at that time, she wasn’t able to get a job. Fion was only able to find a job through the connections of an acquaintance from a charity organization which kick-started her career as a Quality Assurance executive. However, very soon she realized her salary was only enough to pay for her basic living expenses. It wasn’t enough to change her family’s living standards like she hoped to do.
This is what we call being stuck in a rat cycle. Working hard to make a living but could never escape because once you stop, you become cancelled from society. Fion was reaching the point of accepting this truth of working for others for the rest of her life. However, one day her brother was unable to attend a free trip to Lake Toba in Indonesia and gave the ticket for Fion. Knowing that it was a trip sponsored by a MLM company, she firmly asserted that she would never go into direct-selling and is only going for the sake of going to another country.
During the trip, she overheard a middle-aged lady who earned ten thousand and above every month. A house-wife could earn so much while she could only pay for her basic living expenses?
This encounter made her change her mind and decided to pursue entrepreneurship with her family’s well-being in mind.
With neither sales experience nor resources, Fion made her decision to start her Elken journey part-time. During the day she continued her quality assurance job and after work hours she went to meetings and events where she can increase her exposure to people with results in the same industry. The sole purpose is to learn their mentality, work ethic, and steps to succeed in this industry. Everywhere she went, she always brought her handy-dandy notebook and trusty voice-recorder to note down their lessons. However, the result she got after all these hard work was merely RM3.30.

The only reason why she hasn’t stopped and continued the second, third, fourth month was because among all the notes and lessons she took down, all successful persons in this industry she has came acrossed said MLM boils down to one key concept: the beauty of exponential growth.
Compared to the stagnant salary she receives in her quality assurance job, Elken gives Fion the hope of financial freedom and the hope to jump out of the rat race though it may be considered risky as it is based on commissions and the salary is not fixed.
Entrepreneurs and businesspersons gets to have financial freedom but also risks bankruptcy. Most traditional businesses requires you have a pot of gold ready to be invested into a business— renting a shop, getting the products, and other logistics— which acts as a barrier for many to start. However, with MLM, the starting amount is not as large as a traditional business making it easier for Fion to kick-start.
With only her will to succeed, Fion’s side-hustle in Elken surpassed the income from her regular job in just six months. This spurred her to resign from her jobs and join Elken full-time. Through many trials and errors, in 2008, Fion received the Award for Most Outstanding Entrepreneur by the Malaysian Direct Selling Association (DSAM) at an age of 28. Fion successfully earned more than RM1,000,000 which is ten times the income of their previous full-time jobs and qualified for Elken’s numerous reward programs within a year.
Fion finally was able to go back home and giver her parents the retirement life that they deserved. She brought her whole family to China and giving her parents their first airplane experience.
Throughout her journey she realized that through hard work we can certainly get the results we want if we found the correct platform to grow. Entrepreneurship certainly is not easy. Fion had to face a lot of problems and let-downs and sometimes she would feel hopeless. But as long as she knows what her end goal is and what she is pursuing, she will not give up.
Now that she went through this journey, she continues to share her story in hopes to inspire more young people to also pursue entrepreneurship for financial freedom.
